CVTC STEM Race Pit Camp

Date: 6.23.2014

Get ready, set, race! The 2014 CVTC STEM Race Camp will focus on applying state-of-the-art petroleum independent transportation (PIT) technologies to power a 1:10 Radio-Controlled (RC) car. Technologies such as fuel cells and solar energy will enable your team to power your car off of the electric grid. Attendees will also learn how to measure and then re-engineer cars to improve their performance and competitiveness. You will be assigned to a team and compete with other teams to earn points for both applying petroleum independent technologies and engineering strategies to operate your car in a race environment. Awards will be given at the end of the competition to teams that have earned the most points.

Monday – Thursday, June 23 – 26, 2014
9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. each day
 Chippewa Valley Technical College
Gateway Campus, Manufacturing Education Center
2320 Alpine Road, Eau Claire, WI 54703

What You'll Do

Your team will explore variables that control performance of a 1:10 Radio Controlled (RC) car, simulating the preparation of professional racing teams in the weeks and months leading up to every race.

  • Work in teams of four students
  • Race in time trials
  • Compete in head-to-head races against other teams
  • Perform testing on cars and re-engineer aerodynamics, suspension balance, tire angles, and fuel consumption to improve the performance of your car.

Points will be earned during the camp for team performance and standing. Awards will be given at the end of the competition to teams that take part in activities that enhance performance and competitiveness.
